I don't know nothin' bout birthin' no babies

So we've started with some of the classes we've signed up for. This actually wasn't the first time we were at the hospital for some instruction. The first time, we went for the tour. That was actually quite brief and to the point.

"When you come in, you go here. You'll have the baby here. Here's the nursery. Here's your recovery room. You go home in two days."

The only somewhat dicey part of the tour was when they took us to the labor and delivery room. All of the pregnant women there, including Ivori, needed to take a seat. I guess the realization was starting to hit them on some, "Oh snap, this is really going down". Thankfully we did the tour first, cuz it was a bit of walking involved.

Over this past weekend, we had Child Birthing class. WAY more serious and involved than the tour obviously. You have the option of doing it for five nights or condensed into two days. We chose the later option. Of course this meant that Friday night was 7:00pm to 9:30pm and Saturday was 9:30am to 4:30pm. Yes you read that correctly.

A lot happened in this class that I probably can't even write in this blog. So I'll summarize a bit:

- breathing techniques for mommy
- different stages of labor
- contractions
- dilation
- actual birth
- cesarean sections (I had to look that up)
- after birth care for baby
- after birth care for mommy

I think that pretty much covered it in a nutshell. Obviously there's much more that was talking about during the 10 hours, but they kind of all revolved around those main things.

Most of what the showed us was by way of video. Now if you've ever watched A Baby Story on TLC, you've probably seen most of this footage. The hospital version was a little more in depth and up close. They showed it, oh I don't know, maybe 15 times. After about the 5th time, I don't think too many of the pregnant women there were actually looking at the screen anymore. As far as I know, all of the class was made up of first time parents like ourselves. So after each video, when our instructor asked if there was any questions, it was pretty much, (from the men)"So seriously, that's what happens?" or (from the women)"How much is this gonna hurt?".

All in all it was a good class. I only feel asleep once or twice. Did I mention the cafeteria there is off the hook? Next class I think is Daddy class. No mommies allowed. Maybe I can ask more questions at that one, cuz Ivori shot down most of the questions I had for this class.

"No, you can't ask that."
"Why not?"
"Because it's stupid."
