Cabinitry ... or however you spell that

Did I ever tell you that I won the spelling bee for my whole school in the 4th grade? Yep, made it all the way to the city spelling bee. Never made it to Scripps tho. Kinda peaked in the 4th.

Anywho, cabinets have now been installed. Which is great, cuz I was getting tired of always having to hold stuff. Of course we're not really supposed to be touching them, so don't tell anyone that I totally touched them. If you're curious (how could you not be), the same guy who did the trim came back to do the cabinets. Of course he didn't do this job alone, he had a crew.

We also now have a lovely banister (not sure how to spell that either) installed. Which is also great cuz it's quite the balancing act going up and down without it. The picture of it is in the previous post. One of those things you really take for granted.

"Don't it always seem to go.....". I won't torture you.

"But you don't have to take my word for it."

I'm looking at the pictures right now trying to decide what to include. You know trying to give you a good feel for how the process is going. As well as you can with out being here to see it. But even being here myself, I don't always know what's going on. I mean I am aware of what is currently happening, but I don't really know what things are all the time. So I apologize in advance if I call something the wrong thing. I tend to call certain things what I happen to think they are (or do).

However, I do know what these pictures are going to be. These are pictures of the baseboards, trim and doors. I was actually there while the guy was putting on the baseboards. I got a picture of him, but I didn't get his permission slip in time so they will not be included. It's been mentioned in this blog previously that the different crews working on different trades in the house are small or just one guy. This is another situation like that. Even though this seems to be astonishing to me, this appears to be the norm in house building. This guy did tell me that he did have a couple guys that work for him put the doors on, but he was cutting and stapling all the trim himself. And I must say that he did a good job too.

Here's the pictures....

This picture isn't an illusion or anything, it is three different doors, though for the life of me I can't remember where in the house that is.

An example of some trim that is not on the bottom of the wall or around the door. This is at the top of the stairs at the half wall thingy that keeps us from falling down the stairs.

I say all that to say...

Here it is 19 days into the month and I'm making only my second post of the month.

This month has been intriguing. We've had some off the field issues as well as some difficulties on the court. But through it all I think we showed a lot of heart. We kept our focus and hung in there. We just try to take it one game at a time. Gotta take what the defense gives you and pull out all the stops.

Ok, that's all the sports cliches I could think of at the moment. Basically, I'll be making a lot more posts in the comings weeks. We have seemly gotten past the halfway point and it's crunch time now (ok there's one more). I will have an update every weekday (letting you catch up on the weekends), and plenty of pictures to go with it. A lot of stuff is happening right now which is very exciting. Everyday it's more and more of a house.

I also now have the construction "itinerary" in my possession. No I didn't steal the microfilm hiding it in a fake water bottle. I actually just asked to have a copy made. Just to be clear as to what I'm talking about...there is a schedule listed in the main construction/sales office that lists what they do on what day. They have a 48 day work day and they basically have it mapped out exactly what is going to be done on your house on what day. Well, normally, they'll call you up every week and tell you that you're on day 17 or 23 or whatever. Of course since I have no idea what that means, I'd have to go up to the office and look at the schedule on the wall, find our lot number and then see what day 17 entails (siding gets delivered, cuz I know it was buggin you). So I finally just ask the guy in there if I could have a copy of the list. To which he says, "Oh goodness, yes!" ... Yes he really said it just like that.

You may be asking yourself, what does this all mean? Basically, I can know what they now mean when they tell me what day of the build we are on. Also I can know what's coming up in the process and know what to expect. That second part is very helpful for blogging. It's like I know the future and can plan accordingly. I can go straight to the part of the house where something is being done instead of scouring the whole house looking for changes.

"Does that look different to you? I can't tell if that looked like that last time we were here. Scroll through the camera and see if we have a picture of that already or not."

Curtis lost or Kanye won, you choose

This blog thing would be better if it didn't show you the exact date and time of your last post. Then I wouldn't feel so bad about not having posted in a while. (Looking at date) Wow! Has it really been since the 30th of August?!

Well it hasn't been totally cuz of my laziness. Honestly not much has happened on the house in the last week or so. The last thing that happened was the drywall going up inside the house. Since then, they've started on the wall texture and that's about it. I think this is the part of the build where they'd be putting up the brick or stone work. Since we don't have either of those, maybe that means they get a break or something. ??? Honestly I have no idea. Of course, since it's my house, I feel like they should be working on it even if they don't have to. I know that sounds bad, but that's how I feel.

"So what it's Labor Day....get to laboring!!!"

In other news, our next door neighbor moved in. Apparently they have the first finished house on our block (not counting the houses at the far end of the culdis, cullde ... circle). I only got to meet the husband and the little boy, but they seem nice so far. He's works in landscaping to which my response was: "SCORE!!!". If you didn't know by now I have been a little worried about doing yardwork and whatnot since I really haven't done anything like that in a long time.

Also our street number for the new house is now different. Well, not just us, but everyone on the street. Apparently the city feels we'd be better as the odd side of the street instead of the even. I was getting so used to being even for a change. So if we gave you our future address already change that 2 to a 1.

So at this point we are about 5 to 6 weeks out and we are eagerly awaiting. Cuz I know you are picture starved, here's some interior pictures of the drywall. Laterz.

ps - If you have no idea what that title means, it's ok, it's not that serious. But it's sooooo true!
